Opioid Addiction, Trauma Informed Care & Collaborative Solutions

Andrew Miller, MD, Public Health Officer, Butte County Public Health will share on The Opioid Crisis in Butte County. This will include how we got here, over prescription of opioids, specific data for Butte County as compared to state and nation; and how do we work together to heal the situation.
Sesha Zinn, PsyD, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Butte County Department of Behavioral Health has led the Systems Performance Research and Evaluations team at BCDBH for the past 10 years and also has a private practice specializing in childhood trauma.
In this session we will explore ACES – Adverse Childhood Experiences Study – including Butte County specific data. Dr Zinn, will also address the components of a trauma informed system, factors related to historical trauma. You will gain an understanding of the basic impact of trauma and stress on the brain and body as well as learn how to implement a co-regulation plan to counteract secondary trauma.
Learning objectives: In this session you will learn:
1. The history and scope of the opioid crises.
2. What ACES is and how it is a key factor in the current crisis.
3. How trauma informed care can help heal the crisis on a systemic and community wide basis.
